Robbie Stokes has spent his entire working life in the music and sound production business.  A graduate of University High School (Pulliam Hall) of SIU-Carbondale, Robbie played in the 'Viscounts' in high school, then left for California at age 18 with his band 'Devil's Kitchen'.  The first gig Devil's Kitchen played was opening for the nascent Credence Clearwater Revival at Dino and Carlo's in North Beach, San Francisco, the (in)famous longshoremen's bar in this legendary city.

Robbie worked for some time with various San Francisco-area artists, notably including Mickey Hart and Robert Hunter (Grateful Dead), Norman Greenbaum (the 'Spirit in the Sky man), a short stint on bass with Quicksilver Messenger Service, and blues legends Big Mama Thornton and Lightin' Hopkins, among many others.  At that time Robbie was also a frequent jamming buddy with a wide array of SF notables and passers-through, including Carlos Santana, Bill Champlin, David Crosby, John Mayall, Harvey Mandel, Jimmy Buffett, Ramblin' Jack Elliott , Country Joe and the Fish and many more.  At this time, Robbie noticed that sound legend and guru John Meyer was frequently at the band's shows and Meyer's views on sound reinforcement influenced Robbie greatly.

In the 80's Robbie became house sound tech/talent buyer at the original Gatsby's in Carbondale during the heyday of the Carbondale music scene, holding that position until 1993, booking and mixing many great acts including Foghat, Dave Mason, Dr. Hook, Spirit, The Waitresses, the Byrds, Derek St. Holmes (Ted Nugent Band), Cub Koda and Brownsville Station, Son Seals, Eddy Clearwater, Matt 'Guitar' Murphy (Blues Bros.), the Elvis Bros., and many more .  Robbie also kept playing in bands all through these times: Coal Kitchen, the Buster Boy Band, Vision, Big Larry, 4 on the Floor (still extant), Dr. Bombay, and St. Stephen's Blues are just a few.  Plus, Robbie could often be found jamming with Carbondale legends Big Twist (and the Mellow Fellows), the Skid City Blues Band, the Dixie Diesels, Daryl Jones (Sting, Madonna, Rolling Stones), Angus Thomas (Miles Davis), and Grammy-winner Shawn Colvin. Commensurately, Robbie started ROBCO AUDIO, now in business 25 years, and has been the 'go-to' guy for live sound reinforcement in the area, and that continues.  In 1998 Robbie graduated from SIU-Carbondale with a BA in University Studies.  He is the proud parent of Carly Clark-Stokes, now 21 and a student at SIU, and Robby Clark-Stokes, now 24 and a graduate of SIU-Carbondale.  (Robby has taken over the teaching--guitar and bass--and DJ duties for Robco Audio.)  Robbie's total musicum vitae is far too long to list fully here.  Suffice it to say that Robco Audio is dedicated to the best sound reinforcement it is possible to provide at any given event, be it speech, theatre, worship, or concert sound.
